There's nothing like long-distance running to free up the mind and get the creative brain juices flowing (eg Hurakami, Carol Joyce Oates, Tony Birch). On Sunday I ran the Forrest Half-Marathon through the Otways. Stunning scenery, peace, tranquility, pain. As the blood drains from the brain the yet to be written words and ideas flood the space. Tip: keep half a pencil and a scrap of paper in your back pocket and catch the thoughts before they escape into the undergrowth. The photo is of me at the 2012 Melbourne Marathon (3hrs: 58 mins: 18 secs!!!!).
